26 Nov 2016

Allen & Gledhill wishes to inform that the Prime Minister’s Office, Singapore has announced that our Chairman and Senior Partner, Lucien Wong, will be appointed the next Attorney-General of Singapore with effect from 14 January 2017. Mr Wong will step down from his position at Allen & Gledhill on 18 December 2016.

Mr Wong joined Allen & Gledhill as a Partner in 1987. He was appointed Managing Partner in 1998, and assumed his current position as Chairman and Senior Partner in 2012. During his tenure, Allen & Gledhill has grown from a firm of around 30 lawyers in the late 1980’s to a leading law firm with more than 350 lawyers in Singapore and around 100 lawyers in its South-east Asia regional network.

Christina Ong and Penny Goh, two of our Firm’s most senior and experienced Partners, will take over as Co-Chairmen and Senior Partners when Mr Wong leaves Allen & Gledhill. Mrs Ong has been with Allen & Gledhill since 1987 and Mrs Goh since 1977. Mrs Ong, a leading corporate and finance lawyer, currently heads the Financial Services department of our Firm. Mrs Goh, a prominent corporate real estate lawyer, currently heads the Corporate Real Estate department of our Firm. As well as having extensive practice experience and being widely recognised as leading practitioners, both have been core members of our Firm’s management for the last two decades.

Mrs Ong and Mrs Goh will be supported by Lee Kim Shin, our Firm's current Managing Partner, and Jerry Koh, our newly appointed Deputy Managing Partner. Mr Lee and Mr Koh will be further supported by a Management Committee comprised of senior members of our Firm. Mr Lee, who joined Allen & Gledhill in 1987, is a leading corporate and mergers and acquisitions lawyer and has served as a Judicial Commissioner in the Singapore High Court. Mr Koh, who joined Allen & Gledhill in 2001, is a leading capital markets lawyer and a well-recognised specialist in the REITs market.

Mr Wong joins a distinguished list of Allen & Gledhill alumni who have taken on public office in Singapore. Mr Wong commented: "I am honoured to be asked to take on the appointment as the next Attorney-General of Singapore. I look forward to serving Singapore, working with my new colleagues at the Attorney-General's Chambers, and building on the good work of my predecessors. I am leaving Allen & Gledhill, with bittersweet feelings, after having spent 30 years at the firm. Over that period, I have had the immense privilege of working with exceptional colleagues and remarkable clients. I wish to express my gratitude to them all."
