Margaret Chin has been a Partner in Financial Services since 1996. She has considerable experience in debt offerings by local and overseas corporations and Singapore statutory boards, including retail offerings in Singapore. She also has experience in asset securitisations, loan syndications, banking and project financing.

Her transaction experience includes advising on:

 

Singapore Airlines Limited’s S$1 billion multicurrency medium term note programme and the offering of S$300 million 2.15 per cent. bonds due 2015 to the public in Singapore by way of ATMs and to institutional and other investors. This is the first retail bond offering by a listed company in Singapore signifying a landmark offer of an on-exchange tradable bond for retail investors;

Great Eastern Life Assurance Company Limited’s S$400 million 4.60 per cent. Subordinated Notes due 2026 Callable in 2021 which is meant to qualify as a Tier 2 resource. This was the first Tier 2 issue for an insurance company in Asia outside of Japan and Australia;

Wilmar International Limited’s US$1.3 billion term loan facilities for the purposes of financing the acquisition of Sucrogen Limited by Wilmar and Sucrogen’s A$600 million revolving credit facilities. The syndicated loan has been recognised by AsiaMoney as the “Best Syndicated Loan” under its publication “AsiaMoney Best Regional Deals: DCM and Loans”;

the issuance of S$180 million 2.585 per cent. Notes due 2016 and S$320 million 3.408 per cent. Notes due 2018 by Joynote Ltd guaranteed by Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited;

the securitisations of Wisma Atria, Compass Point, Capital Square, Metro’s 27 per cent. stake in Ngee Ann City and CapitaRetail Singapore Limited’s portfolio of shopping malls; and

the issue of commercial mortgage-backed securities in respect of the properties held by CapitaCommercial Trust, CapitaMall Trust, Ascendas Real Estate Investment Trust, Jurong Point, Starhill Global Real Estate Investment Trust (formerly known as Macquarie MEAG Prime Real Estate Investment Trust), Fortune Real Estate Investment Trust, K-REIT Asia and Suntec Real Estate Investment Trust.

 

Margaret is recognised as a leading individual in capital markets by The Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009, 2009/2010 and 2010/2011) and Who’s Who Legal Singapore (2008). She is also noted as a leading individual in banking and finance by Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers (since 2002). In Chambers Asia (2009), she is described as “a thorough and diligent lawyer who is well versed in the technical elements of the area”, and is noted for her “good, commercial sense”. Margaret was called to the Singapore Bar in 1990.
