Jerry has been practising as a corporate finance and capital markets lawyer since 1993. He joined Allen & Gledhill in April 2001 as a Partner in Financial Services after returning from practising in an international law firm in Hong Kong.

He co-heads the Firm’s Property Funds and Securitisation Practice Groups, and specialises in capital markets, corporate finance and property funds.

Jerry also has significant experience in both local and international debt and equity offerings, as well as mergers and acquisitions. He has completed several groundbreaking transactions since joining Allen & Gledhill LLP, including the initial public offerings of CapitaMall Trust (CMT), Ascendas Real Estate Investment Trust (A-REIT), Fortune Real Estate Investment Trust (Fortune-REIT), Suntec Real Estate Investment Trust (Suntec REIT), Mapletree Logistics Trust (MapletreeLog), Macquarie MEAG Prime Real Estate Investment Trust (MMP REIT), Allco Commercial Real Estate Investment Trust, Frasers Centrepoint Trust and CDL Hospitality Trusts, CapitaRetail China Trust, First REIT, MacarthurCook Industrial REIT, Saizen REIT and Lippo-Mapletree Indonesia Retail Trust, and the establishment and introduction of CapitaCommercial Trust (CCT), K-REIT Asia and Treasury China Trust on the Singapore Exchange.

Jerry was also involved in almost all the secondary REIT offerings from 2003 to 2009 and all the issues of convertible bonds by Singapore REITs to date. He was involved in the initial public offerings of Pacific Shipping Trust, the first business trust registered in Singapore, MacarthurCook Securities Fund, Rickmers Maritime, Ascendas India Trust and Indiabulls Properties Investment Trust.

Jerry regularly advises on the establishment of private equity funds, including CapitaRetail China Incubator Fund, CapitaRetail China Development Fund, CapitaRetail India Development Fund, Ascendas China Business & Industrial Parks Fund, Akebono Shipping Fund I, Mapletree India China Fund and Raffles City China Fund.

Jerry has also advised numerous securitisation (both rated and unrated) transactions involving Raffles City Singapore, Wisma Atria, Compass Point, Capital Square, Cote d’Azur, Metro Holdings Limited’s 27 per cent. stake in Ngee Ann City, CapitaRetail Singapore, Jurong Point, Katong Mall, the properties held by CMT, A-REIT, CCT, Suntec REIT, Fortune REIT, Prime REIT and RCS Trust.

He has further advised on numerous acquisitions and sale and lease-back transactions. He has also advised various property developers in their acquisition of properties across Asia. Jerry was also involved in advising Singapore Telecommunications Limited on its US$8.3 billion takeover bid for the Australian telecoms company Optus in 2001.

Jerry is admitted to practise in Singapore, England and Wales, and Hong Kong, and was called to the Singapore Bar in 1993. He is also a regular speaker in seminars on REITs, business trusts, property funds, private funds and Islamic funds.

Jerry has been regularly cited as a leading practitioner in Chambers Global, Chambers Asia and Who’s Who Legal Singapore. In Chambers Asia (2009), he is described as “one of the market’s most established lawyers and a crucial figure in the formation of Singapore’s REIT market”.
