Long Jek Aun is a Partner in Financial Services. He is a specialist in general funds work advising domestic and foreign clients on all types of investment funds (onshore and offshore corporations, limited partnerships and unit trusts), including private equity, hedge and listed funds. His experience includes structuring, establishing and marketing private and public funds for investment in all types of assets and advising on licensing, regulatory and securities laws issues relating to the fund management industry.

Some matters/roles of significance which he has been involved in include:
 
•

acting as transaction counsel for the establishment of various private equity and hedge funds, including HOPU Investment Management’s US$2.5 billion China-focused private equity fund, HFG’s Korea-focused fund of hedge funds, Imprimis’ Brunei-based S$310 million private equity fund and a Japanese listed firm’s proposed Japan/Korea-focused private equity real estate funds;
•

IPOs and listings on the SGX-ST of the Babcock & Brown Structured Finance Fund Limited and the Macquarie International Infrastructure
Fund Limited;
•

advising fund managers (including those based in the US, Europe, Japan, Malaysia and Hong Kong) on the establishment of their Singapore operations and the structuring of their investment funds, including acting as Singapore counsel and advising on Singapore aspects for Advantage Partners, Apollo Management, Alphadyne Asset Management, Marble Bar Asset Management and Och-Ziff Capital Management;
•

advising domestic and foreign clients on the marketing of funds in Singapore including ING Asia Private Bank, Nomura Asset Management, Crédit Agricole Suisse Private Bank, Blackstone Alternative Asset Management, Natixis Global Associates, Mirae Asset Global Investments and Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch & Cie;
•

advising and conducting fund reviews for various institutional investors and SWFs in connection with their fund investments; and
•

advising banks and financial institutions in connection with their roles as fund placement agents or sponsors.

Jek Aun graduated from the University of Nottingham with an LLB (Hons) degree and was called to the Singapore Bar in 1998 and admitted to the Roll of Solicitors, England and Wales in 2001. Prior to joining Allen & Gledhill in 2003, he was involved in a broad range of corporate and financial services work at law firms in Singapore and Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong, he specialised in funds and regulatory work at a UK ‘magic circle’ law firm.

Jek Aun has been cited by leading international publications such as Chambers Asia, IFLR’s Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Investment Funds Lawyers and PLC Which Lawyer? for his expertise in investment funds and highlighted by Chambers Global as a key individual in the firm's funds practice. He also speaks and writes regularly on legal issues concerning the fund management industry, and recently co-wrote the Singapore Chapter of the International Guide to Hedge Fund Regulation (Bloomsbury Professional,2009). Jek Aun is a member of AIMA.
