Ramesh Selvaraj is a Partner in Litigation & Dispute Resolution. His areas of practice include employment disputes, international arbitration, banking litigation and corporate litigation (such as contractual claims, shareholders’ disputes and claims involving breaches of directors’ duties). Ramesh has particular expertise and interest in claims in defamation and administrative law.

He also has experience in white-collar crime matters involving the Securities and Futures Act, the Companies Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Recent significant matters which Ramesh has been involved in include:

successfully defending Credit Suisse against a claim by Pertamina Energy Trading Limited on allegations of fraud, conspiracy, breach of trust and breach of contract;

successfully defending MMI Holdings Limited in a claim brought by 25 employees of the company’s former subsidiary over employee stock options granted by the company;

successfully defending the Singapore Press Holdings in a defamation claim brought against it by a child care centre in relation to an article written by the Senior Health Correspondent of the Straits Times on the Hand Foot and Mouth Disease;

successfully acting in an SIAC arbitration for a diversified manufacturing conglomerate in relation to a claim against a software developer for breach of a sub-contract. Highly complex and technical, the dispute involved the supply of a safety-related software by the sub-contractor in respect of a major new expressway then being built in Singapore; and

acting for a leading international accounting firm that has been sued by its former client for alleged professional negligence in preparation of expert reports for use in litigation.

The Asia Pacific Legal 500 2010/2011 edition describes Ramesh as an “excellent attorney” in the area of international arbitration and one who provides “cogent, timely answers”.

Ramesh is a member of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and has co-authored the Singapore Chapter of the publication ‘Arbitration in Asia’ by Juris Publishing. Ramesh is also accredited as an Associate Mediator of the Singapore Mediation Centre.

Ramesh graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLB (Hons) degree in 2004. During his time in NUS, he was consistently placed on the Dean’s list for academic excellence. He was also a member of the NUS team that emerged runners-up in the prestigious Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in 2004.

Ramesh now also tutors advocacy in NUS as well as various subjects in the Preparatory Course leading to Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations.

Ramesh was called to the Singapore Bar in 2005 when he joined Allen & Gledhill LLP.
