Shawn Chen is a Partner in Financial Services. He has been involved in several international transactions involving equity issues and the establishment of investment funds. His areas of practice also include business trusts and corporate advisory work.

Shawn is cited in AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers 2008 for his expertise in Capital Markets/Corporate Finance. His recent transactions of significance include the following:

advising Credit Suisse (Singapore) Limited in its role as issue manager and underwriter in the initial public offering and listing of Samko Timber Limited, a leading timber processing company in Indonesia and one of the world’s top tropical hardwood plywood producers;

advising Citigroup Global Markets Singapore Pte Ltd in its role as issue manager and underwriter in the initial public offering and listing of First Resources Limited, one of the largest private sector producers of crude palm oil in Indonesia;

advising Prudential Property Investment Management (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. on the establishment of a Vietnam property fund;

advising Arcapita Bank, a leading Middle Eastern investment bank based in Bahrain, on its investment in Ascendas India Development Trust, a S$500 million fund structured as a business trust;

advising the trustee-manager in the initial public offer and listing of CitySpring Infrastructure Trust in 2007, the first infrastructure business trust to be registered with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (the "MAS") and the first listed group to utilise the qualifying project debt securities incentive introduced by the MAS on 1 November 2006; and

assisting the issuer in SP AusNet's initial public offering, which was the largest in Singapore in 2005 and the first IPO of stapled securities and a business trust, in Singapore;


Shawn was seconded to the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore in 2002 as a Legal Advisor where he advised the Singapore Government in the course of its negotiations on free trade with the USA, ASEAN and China.

His other interests include teaching and he taught legal analysis, writing and research at the National University of Singapore from 2002 to 2006. He continues to pursue this interest by being involved in the Legal Case Studies programme there.

Shawn graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLB (Hons) degree in 1999 and joined Allen & Gledhill upon being called to the Singapore Bar in 2000. He is also called to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales.
