Danny Tan is a Partner in Financial Services. His areas of practice encompass investment funds, capital markets, and mergers and acquisitions. He specialises in fund formation and restructuring, fund investments and fund regulatory matters, and co-heads the Firm’s private funds practice.

With over a decade of law practice, Danny acts for local and international fund managers, financial institutions, governmental bodies and sovereign wealth funds. Danny is often sought for his extensive experience on licensing and other fund regulatory matters as well as transactional fund experience. His expertise with various types of onshore or offshore fund vehicles (including corporate entities, limited partnerships and unit trusts) is well regarded in the Singapore fund management industry, whether for private equity funds, hedge funds, fund of funds, real estate, infrastructure or venture capital funds.

Danny has been ranked by Asian Legal Business as one of Asia’s top Private Equity/ Venture Capital lawyers. He has been cited in IFLR’s Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Investment Funds Lawyers, Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific, in which he has been recognised as a “key individual” in the Firm’s private funds practice and a “highly respected” individual in the private funds sphere. He has also been interviewed and quoted by the Asian Venture Capital Journal for his industry knowledge.

Danny has been involved, in various roles, in transactions like:

 

the establishment of a US$400 million Asian real estate fund by a leading US real estate fund manager with a North Asian pension fund;

the establishment of US$588 million China logistics facilities fund by a US owner, operator and developer of global industrial real estate;

the establishment of a US$500 million logistics facilities fund by a Singapore logistics infrastructure provider and a North American pension fund;

the establishment of a US$1.5 billion Indian infrastructure fund by an Australian financial institution, an Indian financial institution and International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group);

the establishment of a venture capital fund under the Global Investor Programme by a world-leading nanotechnology firm, seeded by the Singapore’s National Research Foundation;

the establishment of a US$100 million water infrastructure fund by a South-east Asian financial institution, International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group) and the Asian Development Bank;

the cross-border sale of a China-incorporated foreign bank of an Indonesian conglomerate to US private equity firms.

 

Danny graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLB (Hons) degree. He is admitted to the Singapore Bar and the Roll of Solicitors, England and Wales. Prior to the Firm, Danny was with another leading Singapore law firm and did a stint in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London.

Danny has co-written articles for international publications like the International Financial Law Review, including the Singapore Chapter of the International Guide to Hedge Fund Regulation (Bloomsbury Professional, 2009). He was also a tutor in the Legal Case Studies programme of the NUS Law School.
