Danny Tan is a Partner in Financial Services. His areas of practice encompass investment funds, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions. He specialises in fund formation, restructuring and fund regulatory matters, be it private equity funds, hedge funds, fund of funds or venture capital funds. Danny has extensive experience dealing with different types of onshore or offshore fund vehicles (including corporate entities, limited partnerships and unit trusts) whether structured as master-feeders, stand-alones or fund of funds. Danny also deals with a wide range of fund regulatory matters and regularly advises local and foreign financial institutions, fund managers and investment funds.

Danny has been involved, in various roles, in transactions like:

 

the establishment of a US$1.5 billion Indian infrastructure fund by an Australian financial institution, an Indian financial institution and International Finance Corporation (World Bank Group);

the establishment of a venture capital fund by a world-leading nanotechnology firm, seeded by the National Research Foundation;

the restructuring of a US$120 million Vietnamese private equity fund sponsored by a Vietnamese commercial bank;

the establishment of a series of Cayman-based hedge funds by an Australian fund manager;

the establishment of a A$1.5 billion buyout fund by a leading Australian private equity fund manager;

the establishment of US$400 million Indian real estate fund by an international financial institution and a Singapore fund manager;

the establishment of a S$310 million private equity fund, seeded by a South-east Asian Government;

the establishment of the first privately owned Japanese shipping fund in Singapore, operating under Singapore’s Maritime Finance Initiative (MFI) scheme;

the cross-border sale of a China-incorporated foreign bank of an Indonesian conglomerate to private equity firms;

the initial public offerings, rights issue and placement exercises by various SGX mainboard listed companies; and

the worldwide corporate restructurings of a US media group and an Indonesian property development conglomerate.

 

Danny graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLB (Hons) degree in 1999. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2000 and has been admitted to the Roll of Solicitors, England and Wales, as a non-practising member since 2003. Prior to joining Allen and Gledhill, Danny was with another leading Singapore law firm for seven years and did a stint in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London.

Danny has been cited in IFLR’s Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Investment Funds Lawyers and named as a key individual in Chambers Global for his investment funds work. He has co-written articles for international publications like the International Financial Law Review, including the Singapore Chapter of the International Guide to Hedge Fund Regulation (Bloomsbury Professional, 2009). Danny was a tutor in the Legal Case Studies programme of the NUS Law School for a couple of years.
