Tham Wei Chern is a Partner in Litigation & Dispute Resolution. His practice encompasses corporate litigation, such as shareholders’ disputes and breaches of directors’ duties, securities-related and banking litigation, contractual claims, competition law, arbitration, and property disputes. He also advises on claims in defamation and on employment disputes.

Some clients which Wei Chern has represented and advised include:

 

the shareholder of a stamps, coins and medals auction house in his dispute with his fellow shareholder over the control and management of the said auction house;

a minority shareholder in a food processing company in his claim against the majority shareholders for oppression;

a shareholder in companies operating medical clinics in his claim against his fellow shareholders for unlawfully removing him as a director and shareholder of the companies;

the receivers of assets of a multi-national petroleum group in relation to a claim made by the group against its former management for misappropriating the said assets;

the independent directors of a listed company in relation to the failure by the company to make proper disclosure in its listing prospectus;

various international financial institutions in defending claims made against them by their clients for alleged breaches of duty;

an international wines and spirits producer in its dispute with a golf events organiser over the staging of a PGA golf tournament in Singapore;

a submarine cable installation company in its dispute with the main contractor over unpaid contractual sums; and

a developer-purchaser in relation to the collective sale of a condominium.

 

As part of a larger team of lawyers at Allen & Gledhill LLP, he has also been involved in other large scale litigation, including having acted for a statutory body in a statutory inquiry into the collapse of a major highway in Singapore.

Wei Chern graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLB (Hons) degree in 2002 and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2003.
