Edward Tiong is a Partner in Litigation & Dispute Resolution. His main areas of practice are corporate restructuring and insolvency, banking litigation, commercial litigation and property disputes.

Matters of significance that Edward has been involved in include:

 

lead Partner representing Borders Singapore Pte Ltd and its Judicial Manager in its financial restructuring;

lead Partner representing United Overseas Bank Limited and its appointed receivers and mangers of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, for the recovery of monies due under a facility agreement with Marine Accomm Pte Ltd;

lead Partner representing Mum’s Kitchen Catering Pte Ltd in the outbreak of food poisoning involving Pat’s Schoolhouse;

lead Partner in the liquidation of the Global Brands Group of Companies and its subsidiaries who owned the FIFA World Cup broadcasting rights and Disney licensing rights, representing the largest creditor, Perry Global Investment 1 LLC, with a debt of over US$145 million;

lead Partner representing United Overseas Bank Limited in the winding up of Continental Bioenergy Singapore Pte Ltd (In Liquidation) with debts of over US$300 million;

successfully defended Credit Suisse against a claim from Pertamina Energy Trading Limited on allegations of fraud, conspiracy, breach of trust and breach of contract;

representing syndicated lenders in Jaya Holdings Limited Group’s restructuring exercise;

advising creditors in the restructuring of Armada (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a major ship manufacturer with debts of over US$33 million;

representing a Cayman fund, CMIA China Fund II Limited, in a claim against its fund manager on allegations of mismanagement and breach of fiduciary duties;

lead partner representing Fu Yu Corporation Limited in its financial and operational re-structuring;

represented a public listed company against former directors in the Court of Appeal on issues concerning breaches of employment contracts, fiduciary duties, and confidentiality and non-competition agreements;

represented Parkway Holdings Limited in a multi-million dollar contractual dispute against the UAE Health Office over patient bills; and

lead partner in a successful representation of four creditors in contractual disputes against prominent businessman, Peter Kwee, in relation to the sale of Laguna Golf & Country Club.

 

Edward was also seconded to Linklaters in London in 2002. Some significant cases during his tenure include:

 

represented a joint venture vehicle between two major supermarket retailers in England over issues raised by the Office of Fair Trading, including complex and novel issues of law; and

advised Airbus on a multi-jurisdictional dispute relating to the supply of aircraft engines worth several hundred million Euros.

 

Edward has also written articles and his most recent involvement in publication is as a co-author of Halsbury’s Laws of Singapore on Insolvency.

He graduated from the University of Hull with an LLB (Hons) degree and joined Allen & Gledhill after his call to the Singapore Bar in 1998.
