William Ong is a Partner in Litigation & Dispute Resolution. William’s areas of practice encompass arbitration, competition law, corporate insolvency and restructuring, corporate litigation such as shareholders' disputes and breach of directors’ duties, banking litigation, trusts, partnership disputes, insurance litigation and general commercial litigation. William is also adept in the Chinese language and has advised various Chinese clients. He is also an Associate in the Insolvency Practitioners Association of Singapore (IPAS).

Some of the cases which William has represented and advised on include:

acting for a major European airline in an ongoing arbitration with another airline in relation to a joint venture dispute which involved the provision of IT services;

acting for Moody’s in defending an ongoing claim in relation to the issuance of credit ratings;

acting for the Singapore subsidiaries of Refco Inc on various issues resulting from Refco Inc being placed under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code;

acting for the buyers for the en bloc sale of a condominium (Horizon Towers) which involved novel issues in relation to the en bloc legislation of Singapore;

a recent appeal filed by an energy player against a decision of a regulatory authority that it had breached certain statutory provisions similar to the Chapter I and Chapter II Prohibition under the UK Competition Act 1998. This is potentially the first competition law case of its kind in Singapore. It involved the entire process of competition law litigation, such as the definition of the relevant market, whether any effect of the agreement sought to be impugned was appreciable, the market share of the incumbent, whether there was abuse of dominant power and whether the 'essential facility' doctrine was applicable;

a recent appeal filed by major energy players against the decision of a regulatory authority in revising the parameters used to fix the price of a certain commodity;

acting for an international wines and spirits producer in its dispute with a golf events organiser over the staging of a PGA golf tournament in Singapore;

acting for the judicial managers of a Singapore company in striking out a claim brought by a former employee, which involved the issue of when a judicial manager is deemed to have adopted a contract under section 227I of the Companies Act; and

a cross border scheme of arrangement and compromise for a Malaysian company. The scheme took place concurrently in two jurisdictions, Singapore and Malaysia.

William graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLB (Hons) degree in 1999. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2000, passing the bar examinations in the top 20 of his year's cohort. He joined Allen & Gledhill in June 2000.
