Tao Koon’s areas of expertise are in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, joint ventures and corporate restructuring.
He has extensive experience acting for clients on both sell-side and buy-side mandates and joint ventures in high value and complex transactions across industry-sectors. Given his experience as an entrepreneur in South-east Asia, he primarily focuses on cross border transactions across South-east Asia where his understanding of business, negotiation and execution abilities make him uniquely effective.
He is proficient in Mandarin and frequently advises on Chinese transactions. Tao Koon joined the Firm in 2008 and has been a Partner since 2010.
- Acted as transaction counsel in the acquisition by KV Asia Capital of nursing home provider Orange Valley and subsequent sale of Orange Valley to Singapore Press Holdings.
- Acted for Singapore Life, the first local insurer to be licensed as a direct life insurer by the Monetary Authority of Singapore since 1970, in its Series A funding round.
- Acted as counsel to a GIC affiliate in its investment in a consortium to effect a tender offer for Energy Development Corporation, the largest ever voluntary tender offer in the power sector in Asia.
