Sai Hong’s principal area of practice is Investment Funds. She has extensive experience in advising on the structuring, establishment, authorisation and recognition of local and offshore collective investment schemes for retail and restricted offer in Singapore and the listing of local and offshore collective investment schemes as exchange traded funds on the Singapore Exchange. She also advises fund managers and trustees on compliance matters as well as investment management agreements, distribution agreements and other agreements relating to both listed and non-listed funds.
Sai Hong joined the Firm in 1988 after she was called to the Singapore Bar and became a Partner in 1995. In 2002, she left the Firm to head the Legal Division of the Singapore Land Authority (a statutory board under the Ministry of Law) and rejoined the Firm in 2006.
Sai Hong is listed as a Leading Individual in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific for Investment Funds, and is noted as someone “who is ‘efficient’, ‘works quickly’, is ‘open-minded’ and is widely noted for retail funds work”. She is also a ranked lawyer in Chambers Asia-Pacific for Investment Funds, and is described as “attentive, detailed and responsive, with an ability to turn things around in a timely manner”. She co-authored the chapter entitled “Regulatory Framework: Singapore” in the Exchange Traded Funds in Asia 2010/2011 publication.
- Acted for the manager of NikkoAM-StraitsTrading Asia ex Japan REIT ETF in the establishment, authorisation and listing on the Singapore Exchange of NikkoAM-StraitsTrading Asia ex Japan REIT ETF, the manager’s first REIT ETF listed on the Singapore Exchange.
- Acted for the manager of ONE STOXX ASEAN Select Dividend Index Fund in the recognition and listing on the Singapore Exchange of ONE STOXX ASEAN Select Dividend Index Fund, the first Thai fund offered to the retail market in Singapore under the ASEAN CIS Framework and the first Thai fund listed on the Singapore Exchange.
- Acted for the manager of Nikko AM Shenton Horizon Investment Funds – Singapore Dividend Equity Fund in obtaining approval of Nikko AM Shenton Horizon Investment Funds – Singapore Dividend Equity Fund as a Qualifying CIS under the ASEAN CIS Framework, one of the first Singapore funds to be approved under the Framework.
