Vivek’s areas of practice are international arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution, with a focus on India.

Vivek regularly acts as counsel on international arbitrations conducted in Singapore under various institutional rules. He has considerable experience with acting on emergency arbitrator proceedings, expedited procedure arbitrations, and advising on arbitral award challenge and enforcement actions in Singapore. Vivek also acts as an arbitrator and has been appointed to three-member and sole arbitrator tribunals. Vivek is recommended as a “name to note for India-related arbitration” by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific.

Prior to joining Allen & Gledhill, Vivek was Deputy Registrar and Head (South Asia) at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), where he was responsible for SIAC’s case management team and also headed SIAC’s India initiatives and its first overseas office in Mumbai. As part of SIAC’s case management team, Vivek has administered and handled over 100 Singapore seated arbitrations including emergency arbitrations, appointments of arbitrators and India related arbitrations.

Vivek was in private practice in India prior to joining SIAC. From 2006 to 2011, he worked with a Senior Counsel in the Supreme Court of India and thereafter, as a senior associate in the dispute resolution team of a top-tier Indian law firm in New Delhi.

Vivek is a member of the Reserve Panel of Arbitrators of the SIAC and is a regional representative of the International Chamber of Commerce Young Arbitrators Forum Committee for South-east Asia.

Vivek graduated from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore and was admitted to the Bar Council of Delhi in 2006.

Work Highlights

  • Acted for a Singapore listed company in the education sector on a US$20 million Singapore seated arbitration against an Indian joint venture partner including in emergency arbitrator proceedings and advising on related Indian litigation including enforcement.
  • Representing a Chinese SOE on a US$25 million SIAC arbitration (including various interim applications) against two Indian entities in relation to supply of heavy machinery for certain port projects in India.
  • Representing a film distribution company on a SIAC arbitration (including acting in SIAC emergency arbitrator proceedings) against a Singapore production company in respect of the Hollywood feature film Hotel Mumbai.
