The Competition Act has been amended with effect from 16 May 2018 to empower the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (“CCCS”) to:
- accept binding and enforceable commitments for cases involving anti-competitive agreements and abuse of dominant position;
- provide confidential and non-binding advice on anticipated mergers as a statutory process; and
- conduct general interviews during inspections and searches.
By way of background, the Competition Act was amended following a public consultation on proposed changes to the Competition Act which took place between 21 December 2017 and 11 January 2018.
