OUR A&G SCHOLAR FOR 2019

WHAT MADE YOU APPLY FOR THE A&G SCHOLARSHIP?

A&G is a top firm and I believe it will open more doors for me. For example, after the meeting with the Senior Management, I received an email on an internship opportunity at the Firm.

HOW HAS THE A&G SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITTED YOU?

The funding helped a huge part and the scholarship opened a lot of opportunities for me. For myself, it helped fund an exchange programme which I participated recently. The exchange was in Copenhagen, Denmark and I was on afield trip to visit Samso, the first island in the world to be completely powered by renewable energy. I would not be able to have this opportunity without the A&G scholarship. I also had a summer school experiencein Berlin to learn more about EU migration and integration where I had interactions with professors from different countries. I really gained experience and knowledge in many different areas.

IN YOUR OPINION, HOW DO YOU THINK LAWYERS CAN CONTRIBUTE BACK TO SOCIETY?

When it comes to contributing back to society, the first thing is to take up Pro Bono cases where we can represent people who are less well-off. We can take some time to help people in need. For me, one of the reasons why I want to join the legal service is because I believe that the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s mission of being the Guardian of the Public Interest and their ability to change lives resonates within. Joining the public sector, even for a few years, is my way of giving back.
