Alexander’s areas of practice include corporate, commercial and insolvency disputes and arbitrations. He regularly represents and advises local and overseas corporations, financial institutions, noteholders and insolvency professionals on matters including major and cross-border insolvencies and restructurings, cryptocurrency, banking and investment disputes, landlord/tenant claims, breaches of directors’ duties, employment claims, estate disputes and information technology claims.

He has acted as lead insolvency counsel for major creditors and insolvency professionals in numerous schemes of arrangement, judicial managements, liquidations and receiverships, including the Zipmex Group, Prosafe Group, Hin Leong Trading, Ocean Tankers, Xihe Holdings, Swiber Holdings Limited, Hyflux Limited, Ezra Holdings Limited, Agritrade International (Pte) Ltd, Otto Marine Limited, the IM Skaugen SE group insolvencies, in addition to acting for investors in major fraud and/or financial irregularity investigations, and clawing back improper disposals by insolvent entities. Alexander has been ranked in several leading lawyer publications, including The Legal 500 Asia Pacific which describes Alexander as one of the “key names for contentious insolvency matters, and “top notch when it comes to considering issues with a 360 view point and anticipating next moves. Strategically brilliant”.

Alexander is also the co-author of the Singapore chapter of the Cross-Border Insolvency: A Commentary on the UNCITRAL Model Law, and has been appointed to panels established by the Ministry of Law on insolvency law matters. He is also an adjunct professor of Singapore Management University.

Work Highlights

  • Representing 15 bank lenders owed more than US$1.6 billion in the successful cross-border restructuring of Prosafe SE, a Norwegian listed entity.
  • Representing bank creditors in successfully placing Xihe Holdings, a US$1 billion entity, into interim and final judicial management.
  • Acting for and advising numerous multinational cryptocurrency firms on cross-border insolvency and restructuring issues, including the scheme filings of the Zipmex Group.
  • Representing noteholders to successfully oppose several schemes of arrangement to restructure US$950 million of guaranteed senior secured notes.
