27 February 2020

The Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (“ACRA”) has announced that the personal information (i.e. name and residential addresses) of position holders filed with ACRA will be aligned with the data filed with the relevant government agency under the National Registration Act (“Act”). ACRA will carry out the alignment exercise in phases. The exercise began on 2 December 2019 and ACRA expects to complete it by June 2020.

Action to be taken

Following the alignment of records, position holders will no longer need to update changes to their name or residential address with ACRA as updates made to the relevant agency under the Act will be automatically synced with ACRA’s records.

Where the name and residential address lodged with ACRA are different from that registered with the relevant government agency under the Act, ACRA’s records will be automatically updated to align with the name and residential address reflected in the position holder’s National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) or Foreign Identification Number (FIN). No further action is required from the position holder. Thus, when holders of passes issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (“ICA”) (i.e. Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents holding Identity Cards, and immigration pass holders) update their names and residential addresses with ICA, ACRA will amend its records to reflect the data in ICA’s records.

Based on information from ICA, the name, identification number, identification type, nationality and residential address of such individuals will be updated by ACRA.

The updating of personal data to ICA, such as a change of residential address, can be done at a neighbourhood police centre/post. As set out in the Acts administered by ACRA, such data must be updated within 14 days.

Position holders who are foreign citizens must continue to update any changes to their names or residential addresses (local or foreign) by filing a change in personal particulars of officers via BizFile+. Holders of passes issued by the Ministry of Manpower (“MOM”) should update their names and residential addresses with MOM via EP Online, and also via BizFile+.
