Effective 16 March 2026, the Myanmar Investment Commission (“MIC”) will officially accept the Chinese yuan alongside the US dollar as a foreign investment currency for proposals and endorsements. The move aims to accelerate Chinese investment, simplify transactions, and reduce reliance on the US dollar amid ongoing economic challenges.

According to MIC news bulletin 1/2026, issued on 16 March 2026, foreign investors may now submit proposals for permits and endorsements denominated in either US dollars or Chinese yuan. Transfer payments for investments in either currency can be conducted through authorised dealer banks.
