The Myanmar Ministry of Commerce announced, via virtual conference on 28 May 2020, that e-commerce operating guidelines ("guidelines") will be issued this year. It has been reported that a draft version of the guidelines has been circulated among stakeholders for their comments. The guidelines seek to promote the sustainable development of e-commerce activities in Myanmar while safeguarding the rights and interests of consumers. Once issued, the guidelines are expected to set out duties of e-commerce businesses relating to buying and selling, contracts, e-commerce consumer protection, matters relating to deceiving and misleading consumers, delivery, refunds, compensation, market discovery, information awareness, identity protection, intellectual property rights and platform responsibility.
