Julian’s areas of practice include mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, joint ventures, corporate restructuring and general commercial contracts and advice.
Julian represents corporate clients on domestic and cross-border transactions, with a particular focus on venture capital and private equity transactions and mergers and acquisitions. He regularly acts for venture capital investors, startups and high-growth companies in financings (from early-stage to late-stage) and other corporate transactional matters.
Chambers Asia-Pacific notes that Julian “is capable of handling both domestic and international transactions” and that he is “particularly highly rated for his VC practice, regularly assisting investors and early and late-stage startups with financings”. Clients have noted that Julian is “highly technical and reliable” and “has very sharp thinking with excellent communication skills”.
Julian has been recognised as a “Next Generation Partner” in Start-up and Venture Capital – Local Firms for Singapore by The Legal 500 Asia-Pacific. He has also been recognised as “Up and Coming” in Startups & Emerging Companies for Singapore by Chambers Asia-Pacific.
Julian has been a member of the core working group for the development of the Venture Capital Investment Model Agreements (VIMA) – an initiative of the Singapore Academy of Law and the Singapore Venture and Private Capital Association – since its establishment in 2018.
Julian has spent time on secondment with Fenwick & West LLP in Silicon Valley, where he focused on venture capital transactions, and worked with technology and emerging companies on a broad range of corporate transactional matters and venture capital financings.
Work Highlights
- Acted for KKR in its first ever investment out of its Global Impact fund in Barghest Building Performance (ESG Award of Distinction at the Singapore Venture Capital and Private Equity Association Annual Awards 2019).
- Acted for EQT in its cross-border acquisition of an education services business.
