Jonathan specialises in non-contentious shipping matters as well as domestic and cross-border banking transactions, with a particular focus in the maritime and offshore oil and gas sectors.
He primarily acts for local and foreign banks, borrowers, shipping trusts and equity investors in lending, leasing and debt restructuring matters. He also regularly acts for shipowners in various non-contentious shipping matters relating to ship sale and purchase, charterparties and shipbuilding contracts.
Jonathan joined Allen & Gledhill in 2008 after he was called to the Singapore Bar and he is an active member of the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA), holding the positions of Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the SSA’s Young Executives Group Committee.
Work Highlights
- Acted as borrower’s counsel to a shipping company in relation to multiple facilities in the aggregate amount of over US$680 million granted by various banks for the financing of 26 bulk carriers.
- Acted as transaction counsel to a syndicate of banks in the S$280 million secured term loan facility granted to Stolthaven Singapore to refinance its existing indebtedness under a loan taken to finance the construction of a terminal on Jurong Island.
- Acted as transaction counsel to a Singapore bank in the cross-border restructuring of ten vessel financing facilities granted to several subsidiaries of an offshore oil and gas company, involving five jurisdictions.
