Reported collision cases in Singapore are few and far between, but there have been two very recent decisions in The Dream Star [2018] 4 SLR 473 and The Tian E Zuo [2018] SGHC 93 where the Singapore court had to grapple with not only the issues relating to the collision between the vessels but also with the conflicting opinions of the parties’ experts involved. This article seeks to examine how the court dealt with the conflicting evidence and whether the current proposals for civil procedure reforms will ameliorate the difficulties that arose in these two cases.
