Malaysia’s revised National Land Code in operation from 15 October 2020

On 15 October 2020, the National Land Code (Revised, 2020) (“NLC 2020”) came into operation. The NLC 2020 is the revised edition of the National Land Code 1965 (“NLC 1965”), the primary legislation governing land matters in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan. The legislation was revised by the Commissioner of Law Revision, Malaysia under the authority of the Revision of Laws Act 1968.

As a revised edition of the NLC 1965, the NLC 2020 does not make any major amendments in itself. Rather, it incorporates revisions made under previous amendment orders up to 14 October 2020, and makes minor changes to punctuation and substitution, insertion and deletion of words.
