Singapore and India formalise collaboration on green and digital shipping corridor
29 September 2025
On 4 September 2025, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (“MPA”) announced that Singapore and India had formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) to establish a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor. Signed in New Delhi and witnessed by Prime Ministers Lawrence Wong and Narendra Modi, the MOU builds on a Letter of Intent (“LOI”) exchanged in March 2025 to advance collaboration in maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation. Please read our article “Singapore and India collaborate on maritime digitalisation and decarbonisation projects” for more on the LOI.
Under the MOU, Singapore and India will work with industry partners to develop infrastructure and technologies supporting the transition to zero or near-zero greenhouse gas emission fuels. The partnership also provides for digital information exchange and joint research into emerging green technologies and solutions. India’s renewable energy capacity and industrial base are expected to support the production and export of alternative marine fuels, while Singapore contributes its established bunkering operations, hub-port status and maritime innovation ecosystem. This cooperation is intended to accelerate the maritime sector’s digitalisation and decarbonisation efforts.
