IPOS begins accepting geographical indications applications for “coffee”

With effect from 1 August 2026, the Geographical Indications Act 2014 has been amended to include “coffee” as a category of goods under which geographical indications may be registered.
On 31 July 2026, the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (“IPOS”) issued Geographical Indications Circular No. 1/2026 stating that the Registry of Geographical Indications will begin accepting geographical indications applications for “coffee” with effect from 1 August 2026. Applications may be filed at the IPOS Digital Hub. Applicants are advised to ensure that their applications are filed in accordance with the requirements set out under the Geographical Indications Act 2014 and Geographical Indications Rules 2019.
