Sampson is a Partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department.

Sampson’s areas of practice cover commercial litigation, international arbitration and restructuring & insolvency. His experience includes acting for clients in a wide range of commercial disputes including contractual disputes, banking litigation, shareholder disputes, claims for breach of director’s duties, insolvency-related disputes and arbitration-related court proceedings.

In particular, Sampson has significant experience advising and defending financial institutions in a variety of contentious matters, including those related to private banking, trade finance, foreign exchange, cross-border disputes and debt restructuring.

Prior to joining Allen & Gledhill, Sampson served as a Justices’ Law Clerk to the Chief Justice and Judges of the Supreme Court of Singapore.

Sampson graduated as Valedictorian from the Singapore Management University Yong Pung How School of Law in 2017 with an LL.B. (Summa cum Laude). He was the recipient of numerous academic prizes including the DBS Bank School Valedictorian Award in Law, Rodyk Prize for Top Student in Corporate Law and TSMP Law Corporation Prize for the Best Law Student in Ethics & Social Responsibility.

In 2023, Sampson was selected for placement under the Singapore Supreme Court’s Young Independent Counsel Scheme. As part of the Scheme, Sampson was twice appointed and appeared before appellate panels of 3 Supreme Court Judges, including the Chief Justice.  Sampson has been commended for his advocacy by the Courts in reported decisions, and in one instance the Court expressed their “deep appreciation to Mr Lim for his analysis of the issues and his submissions which assisted us considerably” (Ng Kok Wai v Public Prosecutor [2024] 3 SLR 1516).

Work Highlights

  • Acting for a global financial institution in insolvency-related proceedings arising from the collapse of the Hin Leong Group.
  • Successfully acted for the private banking arm of a listed financial institution in defending customer claims in the Singapore High Court.
