2025 was a year marked by significant unpredictability and change. Indeed, the past few years have been defined by increasing uncertainty and unpredictability in areas ranging from disease outbreaks and climate change to geopolitics and the economy. However, 2025 stands out for both the pace of change and the scale of change. We saw geopolitical tensions flare in some regions, then cool in a short span of time, before heating up again. Financial markets were shaky in the first half of the year, then rose in the second. As we progress into 2026, we must be prepared not just to weather the prevailing uncertainty, but also to navigate a new world order where unpredictability is a permanent feature. Within the evolving landscape, there are opportunities and bright spots for Singapore, given its stability, adaptability and resilience.
