Singapore and Sweden to deepen cooperation on clean energy and regional interconnectivity
27 November 2025
On 30 October 2025, the Energy Market Authority (“EMA”) and the Government of Sweden jointly launched the inaugural Singapore-Sweden Forum (“Forum”), held in conjunction with the 18th Singapore International Energy Week (“SIEW”). The Forum builds on the Singapore-Sweden Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Cooperation signed in November 2024, and subsequent high-level exchanges aimed at strengthening collaboration on clean energy technologies and regional energy interconnectivity.
The Forum brought together leading energy experts from both countries to share perspectives on hydrogen and clean fuels, smart grids, energy efficiency, cross-border connectivity, and innovative energy technologies.
Both parties underscored the importance of advancing multilateral and multidirectional electricity trading to enhance regional energy resilience, and agreed to cooperate on the deployment of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technologies and transmission infrastructure, including overland and subsea cables, in support of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG). They also expressed their intention to deepen exchanges on nuclear technologies and safety, expand cooperation at SIEW and in multilateral fora, and explore emerging clean fuel pathways such as hydrogen and ammonia through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
