Allen & Gledhill Partners Sophie Lim and Tan Zhi Feng and Senior Associate Sean Tseng contributed an article titled “The Dawn and Permanence of ESG: Why It Matters” as part of the conference resources of the SID Directors Conference 2021. This article looks at how the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into corporate decision-making is becoming synonymous with the 21st century company. At its inception, ESG criteria were formulated as a way to evaluate a company other than on strictly financial terms. ESG has now evolved beyond simply being a way for investors to make savvy decisions. Its importance now is far more fundamental, and has been further underscored by global developments that change our view of the company and its role in society.

This article was first published in the SID Directors Conference 2021 website by the Singapore Institute of Directors.
