Allen & Gledhill Partners Adrian Ang and Tay Yong Seng co-authored The Legal Character of Voluntary Carbon Credits: A Way Forward. The paper, written with global investment firm GenZero, examines the importance of clarifying the legal characterisation of voluntary carbon credits (“VCCs”).

The paper also shares the view that VCCs may be characterised as “intangible property”. This position is not only supported by principles gleaned from existing case law but also provides market participants with a sound commercial basis to transact and manage risk.
