Singapore and India welcome initiatives to develop new growth industries in both countries

On 20 August 2026, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (“MTI”) announced that Ministers from Singapore and India have reaffirmed their countries’ close and longstanding partnership which is underpinned by strong economic and people-to-people ties. Discussions at the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (“ISMR”), which was held in Singapore on 20 August 2026, focused on cooperation in a wide range of mutually beneficial areas, including sustainability, digitalisation, skills development, healthcare and medicine, advanced manufacturing, and connectivity. 

The Ministers welcomed initiatives to develop new growth industries in Singapore and India, which will in turn create trade and investment opportunities for businesses in both countries. The countries exchanged two Memoranda of Understanding in relation to collaborating on food safety and maritime heritage, and a Letter of Intent on cooperation in telecommunications and broadcasting.

The fourth India-Singapore Business Roundtable (“ISBR”) was held concurrently with the ISMR. Discussions at the ISBR focused on improving the ease of doing business in India, improving capital market flows, and cooperation in artificial intelligence. Indian businesses also explored ways of working with Singapore to access international markets.
